have been traveling since about 1 pm this afternoon, leaving Duluth, MN after brunch with the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica convent where I've been staying since about 3 pm Friday. My purpose in this trip was to be present at my Aunt Sr. Mary Higgins' funeral. I missed that because Enterprise Rental cars failed to inform me that I would have to pay a $150 deposit on a rental car I had reserved for $67 for three days, leaving St. Paul MN at about 9 am arriving in time for the funeral mass, thinking that I'd even have time for a quick shower before the services began.
When I got to the Enterprise Offices near the train station in downtown St. Paul I was met by the polite young man named Josh who made the reservation with my daughter earlier. At no time was I or Angel told that there was a $150 deposit requirement. I was unable to use my CapitalOne creditcard because there wasn't enough credit available on that card. Enterprise store manager Nikki said they could not take a debit card at that store. Nikki said I would have to go to the airport to rent a car because airport car rental agencies did honor debit cards.
I didn't know how to get on the light rail that runs right there at the train station and I had walked nearly a mile to the Enterprise Store with heavy luggage. Store Manager Nikki offered to give me the number of a cab service and that cab service charged me Fifty Dollars for a ride to the airport. At no time did store manager Nikki provide me with any information about any light rail services. When I got to the airport I was able to rent a vehicle to drive to Duluth but I did not make it in time for the funeral services. I could have gotten there in plenty of time because my train was early and I wouldn't have had to lug suitcases all over the place because the light rail comes directly to the Union Depot in St. Paul. I plan to write to Enterprise and to Amtrak and to complain about their lack of consideration in dealing with new customers. This was the first time I had used Amtrak to travel as I had found it convenient for getting to Duluth in time for the funeral of my aunt. I think I'll go do that now...register a complaint about my treatment at the hands of Amtrak and Enterprise Car Rentals..specifically that dude Wick Moorman who is the CEO of Amtrak...how dare he allow a new customer to be bilked the way I was??
